Tuskegee Airman

by Pitchlock Pete

July 23, 2017 - The Tuskegee Airmen, the first cadet graduates to earn their wings 75 years ago at Tuskegee-- becoming the first black U. S. Army Air Corps pilots, have a rich history that begins in WWII but reaches far beyond those confines. In conjunction with the celebration of the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen, the weekend will also place a focus on the accomplishments of all African-American pilots from WWII to the present.

The Hangardeck Podcast has been invited by the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing to provide interviews and commentary of the event.  The Dixie Wing will assemble at the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport all types of airplanes flown by the Tuskegee Airmen along with many famous warbird aircraft such as the FG-1D Corsair, SBD-5 Dauntless, T-6 Texan, C-46, Douglas DC-3, and a B-17 Flying Fortress which will offer rides and tours.

The Hangardeck Podcast will interview many WWII Veterans, accomplished authors, and attend a WWII 8th Air Force Fighter Mission Briefing.  There will be many 1940’s Hollywood entertainers and WWII reenactors.  There will also be a photography workshop and a dinner symposium with the original Tuskegee Airmen at the 57th Fighter Group restaurant on Saturday evening.  We look forward to seeing many friends and meeting new ones.
